Virginia made a strong impression on linebacker Buddy Brown, who was in town Saturday to take part in the Cavalier’s junior day.
Brown, a 6-2, 205-pounder out of Williamstown High School in New Jersey, has a scholarship offer from UVa, along with Boston College, North Carolina, Penn State, Rutgers, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among others. He finished his junior season with 67 tackles and three sacks, coming on strong late in the year. Brown had double-digit tackling games in each of Williamstown’s final three contests.
Brown is among a number of highly-talented linebacker targets for UVa in the class of 2013 and a he came away impressed with what he saw and heard on his visit to Charlottesville, enjoying the Cavs basketball victory versus Maryland.
“The trip went good,” Brown said. “I spent a lot of time with Coach London and we went to the basketball game and the atmosphere was fun. The fans were crazy. Coach London treats his players like a family there and it would be a good situation to be in.”
Brown spent time touring the Grounds with assistant coach Shawn Moore.
"Coach Moore showed me the Lawn and it was beautiful,” Brown said. “There’s so much history there.”
Another thing Brown, who plans to major in kinesiology, liked about UVa was the possibility he could be working with the football program in an academic capacity as well.
He hasn’t narrowed his list at this point, but expects Virginia to be on it when he does.
“UVa would definitely make the cut right now,” he said.
